FamilyTouch delivers real-time status updates to family members of the patient via WhatsApp or text messages to lessen the anxiety of uncertainty. The messages are personalized, and privacy is ensured.
FamilyTouch is a web-based software application. Nothing needs to be installed by the client. The application is available 24/7 and updates are automatically applied and available at no charge.
Hospitals, clinics, primary care centers, and long term care facilities are among the potential locations for the use of FamilyTouch.
Your organization will determine which staff will use the application to send messages. Typically it includes the nursing staff, unit secretary, and physicians. Each person will have an individual login (user name and password) and four digit PIN identifier that is recorded in the messaging system and must be entered before sending messages.
Very limited information is stored in FamilyTouch. Information is only stored temporarily--- it is purged 48 hours after messaging ceases. Typical information includes patient name, date of service, care location (e.g. , same day surgery, clinic, med/surg unit), and medical record number to allow the nurse or other staff member to identify the patient..
Information on family members who are identified as persons to receive messages includes name, relationship to patient, mobile phone #, secure PIN, and language preference.
FamilyTouch maintains a history of the messages sent for the patient. Each text message is date and time stamped.
